Trans Fatty Acids or Trans Fats
Trans fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids. Naturally occurring
trans fats
(like those in milk) are not considered to be a health threat. Trans fatty acids from artificial hydrogenation especially partially hydrogenated oils are harmful. They are non-essential and harmful.
Trans fats give fats a bad name
They are also invisible, odorless, and tasteless. They increase LDL (bad cholesterol), lower HDL (good cholesterol), and increase triglyceride levels. These are three negative effects that increase your risk of cardiovascular disease and other health problems. They also cause body tissues to lose the precious
omega-3 fatty acids,
which are needed by each cell of your body.
They are commonly used to extend the shelf life and decrease the refrigeration requirements of food. Margarine, butter substitutes and any food containing hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated oils contain these harmful
unsaturated fats,
even if they are not listed on the ingredients list.

Be careful with what you buy and eat!
In some countries like the US, products with less than 0.5% trans fat per serving are allowed to be called trans-fat-free. The problem is that you eat more than one serving at a time.
Check the ingredients list. Products that have the words “partially hydrogenated”, they have this harmful kind of unsaturated fatty acids. If the word “shortening” is present, the product probably has this as well.
You don't need trans fats to lose weight!
With all that's mentioned above, it is quite obvious that you should avoid food that has these harmful
unsaturated fatty acids.
They will not help you in losing weight. They will definitely not help you improve your health!
Focus on achieving a healthy
body mass index (BMI)
and eating
healthy food.
Info bits: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), replacement of saturated fats and trans fats by polyunsaturated fats effectively lowered risk of
coronary heart disease.
